Breathing in Janpath could make you 10 times more vulnerable to cancer because of the acute concentration of minute benzene particles in the area. This has been stated in a study conducted by M P Keuken of the TNO Netherlands Institute For Applied Research. Keuken found that the concentration of benzene here is 10 times more than the prescribed air quality standards laid down by the European Union. In the report prepared after two years of research, Keuken finds a positive co-relation between traffic intensity and the level of benzene at the monitoring sites.
