Bharalu, Kolong among 71 most polluted rivers

The river Bharalu and Kolong are among the 71 most polluted stretch of river in the country, according to a study by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Significantly, the two river stretches in Assam along with Kharkhala in Meghalaya were the only rivers in the North-East identified as the most polluted by the CPCB study. River Bharalu and Elengabeel system of Kolong were identified as the most polluted stretch. In the neighbouring State Stunga Khlieri in Jaintia Hills has been declared as polluted, disclosed Minister of State for Environment and Forest, Namo Narayan Meena in a Rajya Sabha reply. However, Assam and Meghalaya despite having three Rivers stretch identified, as
