The river Bharalu and Kolong are among the 71 most polluted stretch of river in the country, according to a study by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Significantly, the two river stretches in Assam along with Kharkhala in Meghalaya were the only rivers in the North-East identified as the most polluted by the CPCB study.
