NAGPUR : Union minister of water resources and river development & Ganga rejuvenation Uma Bharti has assured to ensure approval of Nag river rejuvenation project. Mayor Pravin Datke and municipal commissioner Shyam Wardhane briefed her about the proposal pending with the central government during her visit to the city on Sunday. Datke said MP and union minister Nitin Gadkari had already talked to Bharti about the project. "Bharti assured to pursue the proposal pending with IIT Roorkee. We hope that the government will approve the project and sanction funds for rejuvenating and conserving the city's iconic river," he said. NMC superintending engineer Prakash Urade and executive engineer Shyam Chavan gave presentation of the proposed project. Informed about Nag river's highly polluted water polluting Gosikhurd irrigation project, Bharti expressed shock and asked about the NMC's plans to stop the pollution. Wardhane and Urade stressed the need to approve the Nag river rejuvenation plan to stop pollution of Gosikhurd project. "NMC is treating only 100 million litres per day (MLD) sewage and rest going into Gosikhurd project. Under construction sewage treatment plant and proposed 200 MLD project will treat polluted water flowing in city's three rivers. Execution of Nag rejuvenation project along with the two projects will ensure no further pollution," he said. Urade also informed the minister about other types of sewage treatment without any effluent treatment plant.
