With indiscriminate urbanisation, logging and conversion of vast tracts of forest land into farm land and tea plantations, the area of rainforest is declining in Assam. Now, voices of thousands in Assam are heard by the Government. As a result there was a first international rainforest festival, held recently in Joypur in Assam, to protect the environment.
