To give impetus to the Indo-Nepal Mahakali river treaty, experts from both India and Nepal have stressed the need to sort out bilateral differences politically. A "bilateral assistance" seminar held recently in the Indian hill station of Nainital urged political intervention to revive the treaty, which was considered a "milestone" in Nepal-India relations in 1996.
