Bio-farming catches up

The Rythu Sadassu in Paloncha revenue division succeeded in achieving its goal for sustainable farming and expanding bio-agriculture. Farmers from 18 mandals including Aswapuram, Burgumpahad, Manuguru, Pinapaka, Kukkunur, Velie-rpad and Paloncha attended the meeting. The farmers decided to start bio-farming in 30,000 acre in the 18 mandals and they would not use pesticides and inorganic fertilisers. The minister for Vaidya Vidhana Paishad and hospital services, Mr Vanama Venkateswara Rao, reached the Sadassu on a bullock cart. Mr Rao boarded the cart at Ambedkar centre and went to Rajiv Maidan where the meeting was held. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rao said, "The aim of the government is to see all the farmers smiling and it has been implementing various schemes to achieve the goal,' He said that the government commenced irrigation projects to extend water to one crore acres, including four lakh acres in Khammam district. He said that cotton, chilli, paddy and maize seeds were made available in all villages. "We reduced the price of cotton seed packet of 450 grams from Rs 1,875 to Rs 750,' he said. Stressing on the need for bio-farming, he said the expenditure of farming can be brought down drastically if the farmers opted for pest management. He said that the prices of food products raised based on the system has good demand in the international market. The minister said the farmers are being paid remunerative prices for the produce. "Farmers are the backbone of the country. Hence, the government evolved plans to help the farmers, he said and added that the UPA government waived loans worth Rs 60,000 crore and the state government was considering to extend loans to the farmers at the rate of 25 paise interest. "Drip irrigation is another important area where farmers have to concentrate', he said. Recalling the Ramarajya, he said that the government wanted to establish "Rythu Rajya' in the state.
