A large number of localities were deprived of drinking water on Tuesday without prior intimation. Water was not released to about 70,000 connections in Vijaynagar Colony, Humayunnagar, Red Hills, Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, Old Mallepally, Allabanda, Asifnagar, Rajendernagar municipal circle areas and surrounding localities. These areas had gone without water for four days last week after Krishna water pipeline burst at Lenin Nagar. "I went to the local offices but did not get a satisfactory reply," said Mr S.M. Basha, a retired BSNL officer. "Today (Wednesday), I came to know that water was released at midnight." Ms N. Saraswathi Devi, a teacher from Red Hills, said, "If the alternate day supply is not provided as scheduled, the gap stretches to four days." Supply was affected as the Central Discom had shut down the Bandlaguda sub-station and water could not be pumped from Mylardevarapalli into the city. The Central Discom chief general manager, (Ranga Reddy zone), Mr Narasimhulu said the water board had been informed about the shutdown. The water board division-III general manager, Mr Sridhar Babu, said no prior intimation was given. Instead, Discom used the shutdown to take up repairs.
