If all goes well, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be the first civic body in the country to introduce a fine for spitting and littering at public places. The by-laws for implementing the fine got a go-ahead from the BMC House on Tuesday and are now a step away from becoming a law as the y await the State's consent. "After the law is passed, we will use publicity vehicles and undertake other measures to create awareness. We will start fining citizens three months after it comes into effect,' said Additional Municipal Commissioner (City), RA Rajeev, responsible for initiating the new rule.
