BMC starts water supply on alternate days

Bhopal Municipal Corporation today started water supply on alternate days as the Upper Lake, the main source of water supply in 40 percent city area, was left with only two feet water adequate to meet the requirement of nearly 60 days.
The present situation reminds nearly 2.5 million population of the state capital to a similar crisis in 2002 when the Upper Lake dried up forcing some enthusiasts to revel in driving motor cycles and jeeps on the lake bed.
Kolar dam, another water source, has also less storage as Bhopal received only 693 millimetre rainfall this year, about 31 percent less than average. The district administration has already declared Bhopal, Kolar and Berasia urban areas as ''water scarce'' and banned digging of tubewells without prior permission. The municipal authorities also banned use of water supplied through tankers for construction work.
The commissioner Manish Singh inspected Kolar Control Roam and Putlighar water filter pump and took complete details over the distribution of water in state capital. On this occasion additional commissioner Arvind Dubey, city engineer Sunil Shrivastava, engineer Sharad Jain, in charge engineer Subodh Jain and Zonal officials were also present.
In the colonies where water was supplied on Thursday there water will be supplied on Saturday. The Commissioner also took the meeting of 500 valve men and employees having responsibility. In the meeting Manish Singh instructed employees to follow the guideline of Municipal Corporation strictly as very limited amount of water left in the reservoirs of the state capital and they have to maintain water supply till 2009 monsoon.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner has appealed to the residents of the state capital to stop misuse of water. He said that there is a need to make people aware to save water in their daily use. He said through print, electronic media, hoarding, pamphlets, FM Channels, advertisements and posters message will be sent in people that how they can save water.
