Bonanza for tribals may bode ill for forests

After successive droughts, when Madhya Pradesh continues to confront the acute problem of rapidly depleting water table, coupled with massive population pressure on the forest cover, the State Government's latest scheme for diverting the entire profit from the sale of teak and bamboos to the forest dwellers, which was launched by the AICC President, Sonia Gandhi at Mandla is being viewed with extreme caution by a cross section of forestry experts.
