London: Beware of bottled mineral water, which you may be drinking under the impression that it is perfectly clean and safe. Researchers in Germany have found evidence of chemicals containing the hormone oestrogen leaching out of the plastic packaging into the water. These findings show for the first time that substances leaching out of plastic food packaging materials act as functional oestrogens, a hormone. These chemicals are potent in living organisms.
