Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced to issue 35 kg of wheat per month to all 12.98 lakh below poverty line (BPL) families and three litres of kerosene per month to all 10 lakh above poverty line (APL) families which do not have gas connections. The rates of kerosene would be uniform for both APL and BPL families.
He said with the decision of issuing wheat to the BPL families, the government would have to bear an additional financial burden of Rs 44 crore. He said the decision had been taken in view of the demands raised by various representatives of APL families, who met him here today.
Hooda said the decision to issue three litres of kerosene to the APL families had been taken despite the fact that the Rangarajan Committee in 2006 and the B.K. Chaturvedi Committee this year had recommended to issue kerosene only to the BPL families.
The government had taken the decision to give oil to the APL families on humanitarian grounds, he added. Hooda said the BPL families would be issued 9.5 litres of kerosene per month on their ration cards.
