Marathon discussions between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Pondicherry resulted on a scheme for implementing the Cauvery Water Tribunal's award. Mr. Vajpayee, in his third round of meetings, was able to hammer out the agreement that an authority, headed by the prime minister and comprising chief ministers of four basin States, would be created to resolve any dispute related to the Cauvery waters.
