BRTA court seizes 16 CNG auto-rickshaws

A mobile court of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on Thursday filed 62 cases against similar number of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and realised Tk 6.21 lakh in fines for playing the vehicles illegally in the capital. The court, during in its drive in the city's Postagola area, also seized 16 CNG auto-rickshaws for not having any documents and failing to pay the fine. The court, led by BRTA executive magistrate (deputy secretary) Abdur Rashid, filed the cases and realised the fines from the CNG-run auto-rickshaws for plying in the city illegally by taking registration from outside the capital. The fines ranged between Tk 8000 and Tk 20700, the magistrate said. Besides, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and BRTA in their special drive on the day filed 52 cases against different mode of vehicles for not having proper documents. A total of 118 vehicles were checked during the drive conducted at Joar Sahara, road adjacent to Notre Dame College, Manik Miah Avenue and Shanir Akhra. A team comprising BRTA inspectors, technical assistants and DMP traffic sergeants and constables conducted the drive. All the cases were filed under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance against vehicles for not having documents like updated route permits, registration and fitness certificates and tax tokens, and against drive not having licenses and violation of traffic rules. The DMP in association with the BRTA launched the special drive on February 26 to stop plying of unfit vehicles and take action against drivers having fake licenses, officials said.
