A mobile court of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on Tuesday filed 12 cases and realised Tk 11,500 from 12 CNG-run bus companies in Dhaka for taking excess fare. The court, led by BRTA executive magistrate (deputy secretary) Abdur Rashid, filed the cases during the drive conducted at the National Press Club, Motijheel, Kamalapur and Khilgaon. The court checked tickets at different counters of the bus operators and found that they were charging Tk 3 to Tk 10 more than the government-fixed rate announced recently after the CNG price hike. The court fined Swakalpa Paribahan, Himalay Paribahan, Tasico Paribahan, Salsabil Paribahan, Rahbar Paribahan, Anabil Paribahan, Manjil Paribahan, Myline Paribahan, Kolmilata Paribahan, Blue Bird Paribahan and Kapotakhha Paribahan Tk 1,000 each and Gazipur Paribahan Tk 500. All the cases were filed under the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, the magistrate said. In the wake of charging extra fare by the CNG-run buses, BRTA started the drive against the vehicle operators and it, according to BRTA officials, will continue until the malpractice is stopped.
