Assuring a brighter tomorrow, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday announced that all districts of the Bundelkhand region would have solar power plants to cope with the prevailing power crisis in the region.Addressing a function after inaugurating the first large-scale solar plant of 10 megawatt under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy at Karharkala village in Mahoba district on Monday, Yadav said that his Government was committed to fulfill the promises made to the people.
“The Government is committed to provide quality power to people and where it is not possible, to provide conventional energy. We are looking for unconventional methods. Therefore, my Government has optied for solar energy. A new policy has been formulated to identify the regions where rural hearts can be lighted up through solar energy,” the Chief Minister said.
Yadav announced that all the seven districts in Bundelkhand region would have solar power plants.“The beginning has been made at Mahoba and soon we will have such plants in other districts too,” he said. The rugged Bundelkhand, which is craving for development, has seven districts namely Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Lalitpur and Jalaun.
This is the second solar power plant that has come into existence after the Samajwadi Party Government announced the Solar Power Policy. The first plant was set up in Barabanki. “The Samajwadi Party Government is looking for all avenues to increase power generation. In those places where construction of thermal power plant is not possible, we are trying to set up solar plants in collaboration with private players,” Yadav said and added that private companies were being given extensive relief for setting solar power plants.
“This is being done with a resolve to fulfill our promises to provide quality electricity by 2016. We plan to provide 18-20-hour electricity to rural areas and 20-24 hour power supply to urban areas. We are not like other parties which make promises and then forget about them once they come to power,” Yadav said.Hitting out at Bharatiya Janata Party, Yadav said that during the Lok Sabha election campaign, the party had promised to solve UP’s power crisis but it had done nothing after coming to power.
“When the state Government asked for additional power, the National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre turned a deaf ear. We were even denied our regular quota of electricity. The officials wrote a series of letters which met with a stoic silence,” Yadav said.Highlighting the achievements of his Government, the Chief Minister said it was the only government that had fulfilled all the promises made during election campaign.
“We have launched schemes for the poor, farmers, students and youth. It is the Samajwadi Party Government that has launched the biggest pension scheme of the country with its own resources.“My Government pays Rs 500 per month as pension to the women head of poor family. Some may say that Rs 500 per month is a very little amount but the people getting the benefit are thankful to the Government because for them it is a princely amount,” Yadav said.Earlier, the Chief Minister distributed Samajwadi Pension identity cards to around 2,000 beneficiaries at the Polytechnic grounds.
