The EOC, coming up on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office here, has been described as one which is going to be the nerve centre for all disaster management operations throughout the district. It will have the latest equipment and machinery, to predict and cope with natural calamities like earthquakes, floods and cyclone. The cost of the building alone is estimated at Rs 6.5 lakh, while the advanced equipment will cost many times that sum. Mangalore, which comes under the third seismic zone of the country, is one of the 38 Indian cities selected for starting EOCs.
