A voracious wildfire raced through California's Sequoia National Forest this week, menacing some of the world's oldest and largest trees and forcing more than 1,000 people to flee, U.S. Forest Service officials said. Investigators were searching for a camper whose campfire may have ignited the wildfire in a steep canyon in the park about 10 miles (16 km) north of Kernville on Sunday afternoon. Kernville is 115 miles (183.5 km) north of Los Angeles.
