There is an urgent need to enact a "Right to Informaiton Act" but only after much deliberation and public debate so that it not only becomes a part of the common man, but is also recognised and guaranteed by the government. This was the unanimous decision of the panelists who had gathered at New Delhi to discuss the critical issue of "Freedon of Speech and Right of Information", chaired by the Editor-in-Chef of The Statesman, Mr C R Irani, at a symposium on "Liberal Priorities for India in the 21st Century".
