The deputy leader of the Municipal corporation of Delhi, Mr Mahesh Chandra Sharma, today suggested the levying of damage charges on residents of slum tenements who carried out additional constructions and encroached upon land by putting boundary walls. He added that since commercial activities were being conducted in these premises, the imposition of the levy would not affect the poor, besides increasing the income of the corporation. Mr Sharma further said property tax could also be imposed on such premises.
