A ban on export of logs from Cameroon became effective at midnight on June 30 as planned, but the government decided to make an exception for the two main species exported, Environment and Forestry Minister Sylvestre Naah Ondoa said. Ondoa told a news conference that exports of the ayous and sapelli species could continue. Cameroon exports on average over one million cubic metres of ayous and around 750,000 of sapelli anually. They represent over 50 percent of total wood production, which is currently around three million cubic metres.
