Former Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna said on Wednesday that the Congress hopes to reap rich benefits from the Centre's farm loan waiver scheme. However, he conceded that the price rise could have "some impact' on the Assembly elections in Karnataka. Krishna, who is the chairman of the party's election management and coordination committee, added that a dip in inflation could provide "comfort level' to the party. Stating that the Rs 60,000-crore loan waiver for farmers would be "one of the talking points', he hoped that agriculturists would react "positively'. When asked if he was in the running for the chief minister's post, Krishna, who resigned as Maharashtra Governor to return to active politics, said: "Every party has its own style. The Congress has a very Congress-like style. We have left it to the legislature party.' Krishna, however, is not contesting in the coming polls. The decision was apparently taken in view of stiff opposition by a section of state Congress leaders. Development and stability will be the party's main poll plank, said Krishna, adding that both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi would campaign in the state. "The option before the people of Karnataka is to choose between a party which has a history of providing a stable government or a loosely-knit coalition where development is totally missing in the agenda,' said Krishna.
