37 rain trees will have to be sacrificed on the altar of road widening of the Kala Academy to Miramar stretch, in Goa, proposed by the Public Works Department. From the 37 trees for which the Forest Department has already granted a NoC to the PWD, 22 belong to the Samania Saman specie or popularly called Rain trees, planted over 60 years ago by the Portuguese. The proposal for widening this stretch had met with objections during the last five to six years, for the main reason, that this would destroy the rarest tree cover for which Campal is well known.
