Canadian town wins respite from huge wildfire

Crews battling a massive forest fire in Canada's Okanagan Valley have made enough progress to allow thousands of residents to return home, but officials warned that the war against the flames that have destroyed 248 houses was far from over. An estimated 16,000 people remain evacuated from the Kelowna area, and 25,000 are on high alert, but two days of relatively calm winds have allowed crews to strengthen control lines between the 50,000-acre blaze and the prosperous agricultural and vacation community of nearly 100,000 in Canada's westernmost province.
