The World Bank will lend China $150 million to help ease traffic congestion in three cities in the Liaoning province, promoting the use of cleaner cars and fuel and building a better transport net. A World Bank statement said the money would be used to build bridges, railway crossings and bus and cycle lanes in the cities of Shenyang, Fushun and Anshan, as well as encouraging cars which take lead-free fuel or use pollution-busting catalytic converters. "The major issues facing the urban transport sector in China stem from more cars and trucks, rapidly growing cities, inefficient public transport systems and poorly coordinated institutions arrangements for managing traffic in the cities," the statement said.
