Carcasses of over 2,000 Olive Ridley sea turtles, killed by fishing trawlers in Orissa's coastal waters, have been found strewn along a five-kilometre stretch of the Konark-Bulukhand sanctuary area in Puri district. Project Swarjya, a non-governmental organisation which conducted a survey, said in its report that the 30 km-long coastline did not enjoy any legal protection unlike the Gahimatha rookery under Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary.
