The decision of the Centre to allow the memorandum of understanding (MoU) route for assigning hydroelectric power projects up to 100 MW capacity will enable Himachal Pradesh to exploit its vast hydroelectric power potential expeditiously. The state's effort to get projects executed speedily in the private sector had received a serious setback in 1995 when the Centre directed the states to give up the MoU route and instead adopt the international competitive bidding (ICB) mode to assign projects.
