Centre approves Rs 3199.45 crore package to Arunachal

In tune with its commitment for development of North Eastern States, the Centre has sanctioned a comprehensive scheme amounting to Rs. 4,754.20 crores for strengthening of transmission and distribution system in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The scheme has been prepared by Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in consultation with Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. for laying EHT transmission capacity, addition of high tension transmission capacity and augmentation of existing capacity, an official communiqué informed here today.
Consequent upon the approval of the CCEA the Centre has approved this ambitious scheme for intra–state transmission, sub–transmission and distribution system. An amount of Rs. 4754.20 crores has sanctioned to accomplish this project. Out of this Rs.3199.45 crores is earmarked for project to be implemented in Arunachal Pradesh, the communiqué said.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju convened a meeting with officials of power ministry and Power Grid yesterday to discuss the process of implementation of the project.
In order to ensure local capacity building and timely completion of the project, Rijiju emphasized that there should be an active participation of government of Arunachal Pradesh in coordination with the union power ministry and Power Grid, the consultant for the project. Accordingly, the project should be implemented by the state power department, the communiqué said, adding, this would also ensure smooth transfer of the assets on commissioning of the project.a
