Centre asks NE States to use wasteland for industries

The Union Rural Development Ministry has asked the northeastern States to follow the National Land Resource Management Programme (NLMP) to develop wasteland for industrial purposes. The ministry has also directed these industrially backward States to follow the NLMP on a time bound basis to do the land-mapping through satellite, official sources said here today. In a latest communique, the ministry also suggested the states to maintain land records on computers for better performance and assured all possible help in a chalking out an appropriate land acquisition policy for diversified and inclusive agricultural growth. The Ministry had recently announced the Rehabilitation and Resettlement policy, 2007, and introduced several incentives to rehabilitate the rural population and landless people. On the impediments experienced during the implementation of Rural Development schemes like the Indira Aawas Yojana (IAY) and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), the Ministry had issued the general instructions for all the state to accelerate the development, officials added.
