Centre evolving plan for highways development

The Centre is formulating a Rs 1.72 lakh crore seven-year plan for development of national highways. The Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highway, Mr T R Baalu, said the 2005-2012 plan would seek to include among others National Highways Development Project (NHDP)-III for four and six laning 10,000 km of national highways, NHDP IV for two-laning 20,000 km and Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for the North-East.
