'Centre keeping watch on timber smuggling to Bangla'

In view of rampant felling of trees by timber smugglers and killing of animals by the poachers, the forest cover in the Northeast is depleting at an alarming rate, said Regional Chief Conservator of Forest Promode Kant, Ministry of Environment. He said that the incidents of seizure of timber were the highest in the porous Indo-Bangla border in Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura sectors.
