Centre okays Rs 75-crore grant for Zirakpur, informs Punjab minister

The Centre has sanctioned a grant of Rs 75 crore for the development of Zirakpur. The Punjab Government had already released Rs 10 crore for the development plan. Punjab Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh handed cheques to the NAC Zirakpur president on Monday. The Minister said that though Punjab's share accounts to about Rs 7.5 lakh, it was contributing higher amount to accelarte the project. He said that the grant would be used for ensuring supply of potable water and sewerage facility to the residents. He said that projects worth more than Rs 91 crore have been sanctioned for development projects in the town, after the SAD-BJP combine had assumed power in the state. He said that work on the Dhakoli power sub station and upgradation of the Bhabat sub station. He said that though Zirakpur was established only a few years ago, its NAC had succeeded in providing basic amenities to the area residents. Singh said that work on the various projects will be undertaken on a large scale. Narinder Sharma, president NAC Zirakpur thanked the Minister and the area MLA for the grants. He demanded the setting up of a college, hospital and stadium in the town.
