The Centre has proposed throwing at least some portions of degraded forest land open to the private sector for commercial activity generating additional revenue involving the local community. As a first step the Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has asked the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) in Bhopal to come out with guidelines on how to engage the private sector in this programme. It's the fringe areas or degraded forest area which the ministry intends to open to the private sector through a bidding process leaving the core dense forest intact.
