Centre to fund revival of Buddha Nullah

The Union Environment Ministry has finally approved the Bio-Remediation Project for cleaning up the Buddha Nullah. The multi-crore project will be funded 100 per cent by the government of India and represents the largest project of this magnitude undertaken in the country by the ministry.
The Centre had released Rs 50 crore to the state government on April 12, 2009 for nallah clean-up but the money has not been utilised till date, said Ludhiana MP and national spokesperson of Indian National Congress Manish Tiwari.
However, he added, this project will have no involvement of the state government and it will start within this month.
The industrial and domestic pollution in this nallah has polluted Sutlej and has caused ailments till Rajasthan as per various studies. Disclosing this here today, the Ludhiana MP said, this follows the visit of the Minister for Environment and Forests (Independent Charge) Jairam Ramesh to Ludhiana last September on his (Tewari
