Pakistan Archaeology Department is likely to retain monuments on the World Heritage List and transfer the control of the rest to provinces. Moenjodaro, Thattha, Taxila, Takht-i-Bhai and Sehr-i-Bahlol (NWFP), Rohtas Fort and the Lahore Fort/Shalamar Gardens are on the World Heritage List. At present, as many as 1,100 employees -- architects, engineers, excavators, anthropologists, curators and paper conservators -- look after the 392 monuments in the control of the archaeology department.
