In a bid to update and modernise land records, Rural Development Ministry has given in-principle approval to setting up National Land Records Development Mission. The matter is now with the committee of secretaries headed by the Cabinet Secretary. The mission is proposed as a compact, professional and multi-disciplinary body that will help states modernise and digitise land records. The ministry first plans to take up one district in each state and update the land records by revising the existing surveys and creating digitised maps of the areas.
