The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to set up a study team to investigate why farmers in Andhra Pradesh tend to commit suicide in case of crop failure, with particular focus on whether indebtedness to private sources was the main cause. Eleven cotton growers have committed suicide recently following failure of the crop in parts of Warangal district from overdose of pesticide application.
