To revival goods transportation using inland waterways, a cheaper mode than roadways,the Union Cabinet has been approached with radical proposals including closure of the lose-making Rajabagan Dockyard in Calcutta and loans write off for the Cental Inland Water Transport Corporation (CIWTC) amounting to Rs 319 crore.
