Centre unveils action plan for North East

Alarmed at the bamboo flowering in Mizoram and Tripura, the Central Government has envisaged a comprehensive action plan to tackle the bamboo flowering in the north-eastern States. Under the plan, a number of schemes amounting to Rs 366 crore will be implemented. The Ministry of Forest and Environment has constituted a permanent committee to monitor the action plan. Official sources said the Ministry has sanctioned funds for all the Northeastern States including Tripura to boost the bamboo cultivation.
