Cerebral malaria taking its toll over Swine flu

When almost the entire country is on high alert over Swine flu and when the hyped national media is paying prime-time attention to it, Bihar is suffering from cerebral malaria. At least six people have died due to the disease and over thousands are in the grip of it.
According to an unofficial report over three dozen people have lost their lives so far and about 1,500 are suffering from cerebral malaria which has affected over hundred villages, mostly in Munger and Bhagalpur districts of the State.
An eight-member medical team headed by the joint director of Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, Dr SN Sharma has reportedly been sent to the affected areas for providing necessary aid. The team is likely to submit its reports to the Centre in a day or two.
According to the State health officials the brain fever has mostly affected two blocks of Munger district Haveli Kharagpur and Dharhara and Naughachia sub-division of Bhagalpur
district.
