CFC success clouds hidden dangers

Many atmospheric scientists say there is a misplaced popular perception that the problem of CFCs and ozone depletion has been solved by a series of international agreements. In reality it will be many decades before the back-slapping can begin. A 1998 World Meteorolgical Organisation paper concluded that the ozone layer was in its most vulnerable state, and that it would recover only slowly over the next 50 years.
