The depleting level of ozone layer in the industrial pockets surrounding Delhi has alerted the Union environment ministry, which is a signatory to the Montreal Protocol. According to this agreement, all industries emitting substances prejudicial to ozone-layer are to be registered with the pollution control board of the concerned states latest by July 2001. Since only two industrial houses of Haryana (located in Faridabad0 have complied with this stipulation so far, the Union environment ministry, which is the monitoring agency of the Protocol, has extended the deadline for another year, which again is due to expire on July 19,02.
