What is being witnessed today during the construction of the Nathpa-Jhakri hydro-electric project began long before in 1985 at the 540 MW Chamera hydroelectric project on the Ravi in Chamba district of Himachal. The fact remains that though the Nathpa-Jhakri project was conceived much before, but as fortune would have it, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporaiton undertook the construction of the Chamera project as a model project for accelerated hydo- development in the country.
