Seeking special package for the farmers, Congress MLC and former minister Gulchain Singh Charak today appealed the state government to provide immediate compensation for the 100 percent loss of paddy crops suffered by the farmers of entire border belt including Bishnah. While addressing media here today, Charak informed that he took stock of the heavy loss to paddy crops caused due to the heavy rainfall and hailstorms on the intervening night of October 14 during his tour of border villages of Bishnah tehsil. Charak also appealed the administration to provide compensation to the affected farmers for the next crops besides the relief for damage caused to the houses in the devastation. He urged the administration to ensure regular supply of electricity, immediate repair of broken wires/poles damaged in most of the villages. Settlement of old age/widow pension cases, dilapidated condition of lanes/ drains, overflowing of irrigation water and lack of proper transport facilities in the remote areas were the other issues which he stated needed the immediate attention of the government. Charak urged the concerned authorities to get the survey of losses conducted at the earliest and take immediate necessary action in this connection. He demanded that all the loans taken by the farmers should be waived off and fertilizers and seeds be provided to them free of cost for the next crops. Border people have already suffered a great deal on account of conflict, border firing and fencing, thus their concerns should be immediately addressed, he added. He maintained that during his tour, various deputations met him and apprised him about their problems and requested for their early redress. On the question of elections Charak maintained that it was the discretion of Election Commission of India to announce the schedule.
