Chas water project misses Hemant deadline

- Rs 51 crore plan to lay new pipelines from Damodar to city will take another year Residents of Chas, living through a severe water crisis, are looking at another year of hardship with the Rs 51.02 crore project to lay a new pipeline to the city staring at further delays despite assurances to the contrary by deputy chief minister Hemant Soren. The Union government funded project, okayed in 2008, is meant to lay 92km of pipes from Damodar river near Telmacho bridge, about 14 km away, to the lanes of Chas city till ITI More, besides construction of four water towers. Soren, who also holds the drinking water and sanitation department portfolio, held a meeting of local officials last month, taking them to task for their inability to complete the long-pending project by March 2011 as promised. Executive engineer of the project P.K. Singh wasn
