"Play your matches, but please do not pollute the city's air and definitely do not disturb the patients across the road at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Hospital by bursting crackers,' is the request that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has made to the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA). Her appeal came after the Indian Premier League matches held at Ferozshah Kotla Stadium here on April 19 and 30 which saw large-scale bursting of crackers increased noise pollution and traffic jams. "We have requested the DDCA to be mindful of the fact that Delhi has a strong ongoing anti-fire cracker campaign to keep the air quality at a high standard. Most importantly the venue for the matches is located very near a hospital and patients there would be disturbed by the noise, light and air pollution,' said Ms. Dikshit. "The request has been made in the light of the fact that Delhi will be hosting more IPL matches and we would not want the same thing to be repeated.' Expressing concern over the large-scale bursting of crackers at the event, State Environment, Forest and Wildlife (Secretary) J. K. Dadoo said: "We have written to the DDCA pointing out that the bursting of crackers adversely affects the air quality and the increased light, noise and the air pollution levels do not go down well with the in-patients at LNJP Hospital located virtually across the road from the venue site. We hope that after the matter has been brought to the notice of the DDCA, it will be careful.' Ferozshah Kotla Stadium would be playing host to more IPL matches this month. Maulana Azad Medical College Students' Union president Abhishek Bansal said: "Holding such matches so close to a hospital does come with its own problems, especially for patients and those trying to reach the hospital.'
