Chennai, July 16: BGR Energy Systems has bagged engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam to construct 2 x 600 MW thermal power plant. Stating that the new plants will come in Jhalawar, Rajasthan B G Raghupathy, chairman and managing director, BGR Energy said that the size of the deal is around Rs 4,900 crore. The project will be done in two phases, Unit I will commence its operation in 39 months, while Unit II will start its operation in 42 months. Mr Raghupathy noted that as part of the project the company would construct two natural draft-cooling towers, which will be 200 meters tall. The cooling towers will be designed and built in house by the company, he added. The order book of BGR Energy now stands over Rs 11,000 crore, which includes BoP contracts of 500 MW and two EPC contracts of 600 MW units and contracts of oil& gas equipment sector projects. Earlier in June, the company had secured a similar contract from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for 1x600 MW project. BGR Energy has seven businesses which include power projects, captive power projects, oil and gas equipment, air fin coolers; environmental engineering, electrical projects, and infrastructure.
