The Chhabra super thermal power station under construction in Baran district of Rajasthan crossed an important milestone on Wednesday with the successful completion of the boiler's hydraulic test in the first unit of 250 MW capacity. The unit is scheduled to start power production in August this year. The super thermal power project, being constructed in Chowki Motipura village, will initially comprise two units of 250 MW each. The second unit is likely to be functional by November this year. The Chairman and Managing Director of Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, N. S. Chaudhary, said here that no leakage was found in the 13,500 fixtures of boiler tubes and it was found fit to function at a very high temperature and pressure. The hydraulic test was conducted by creating a pressure of 273.5 kg per sq. cm in the non-drainable portion of the boiler. He said the boiler would produce heat energy measuring 810 tonnes an hour which in turn would create sufficient pressure to run the turbine and generator to produce power. After the hydraulic test, other works such as boiler insulation, installation of steam, oil and coal pipelines and erection of related equipment will be taken up. The public sector BHEL is carrying out the works related to the project's main plant, including the designing, supply and erection of boiler, turbine and generator. Mr. Chaudhary said the Vidyut Utpadan Nigam had initiated action for establishment of the proposed third and fourth units of 250 MW each at the project.
