A strong heat wave is sweeping across Chhattisgarh and particularly Raipur which recorded a maximum temperature of 43.4 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Although it was Sunday, the local residents with plans for shopping and other social activities on weekend preferred staying home. “I had plans to go out and select a rental accommodation for my family. However, the high day temperature forced me to drop the plan,” said Ajay Singh, a professional who recently shifted to Raipur. Similar were the views of a number of other residents who were deterred by the hot weather. The maximum activities on the city roads and public places were witnessed during morning and evening. The roads bore a deserted look and those who had to go out either covered their faces or took frequent breaks to get relief from heat. The high temperature however boosted the business of roadside stalls and shops selling fruit juices, beverages, ice-creams, etc. Similar situation was reported from other districts of the State. Durg followed Raipur with maximum 42.9 degres Celsius, Bilaspur with 42.4 degree Celsius, Champa with 41 and Ambikapur with 39.6 degrees Celsius.
