Malnutrition remains a challenging issue in Southeast Asia, including India, says the latest UN report on achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The report states that East and Southeast Asian countries have met the MDG target of reducing the 1990 levels of extreme poverty by half but more efforts need to be put in. This report will serve as curtain raiser for world leaders who will be meeting in New York on September 25th to renew commitments in achieving MDGs and setting out plans and practical steps for action. The report was released in India by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee who said the country needs strong institutions and good governance to achieve MDGs. Citing progress made in some of the MDGs, Mr Chatterjee said there cannot be a
